Enhancing Safety at The Shards’ Shangri-La Hotel
Sector: Hospitality
Sites: The Shangri-La, London
System: Fire and Security
Maintenance: All Systems Under Maintenance Contracts
Background
The Shangri-La Hotel, owned by a prestigious global hotel chain based in Hong Kong and located within London Bridge's iconic Shard building needed to update and repair their current fire and security systems. Situated on the 34th floor and extending up to the 52nd within such a high-profile location with public access, the need for a robust safety system was paramount to keeping their staff and guests safe at all times.
Having identified equipment previously installed by another service provider which was starting to fail, A Plus Security was entrusted with the task of providing the hotel with a fire and security system they could rely on.
Challenges
The main challenge faced was that over time, the existing fire and security systems had fallen into slight disrepair, presenting numerous faults and issues. These problems demanded prompt repairs to ensure the uninterrupted safety and comfort of the hotel's staff and guests.
Additionally, several ageing components and devices fell outside of the manufacturer's lifespan causing a higher-than-normal failure rate, so these systems required replacing to updated versions.
Solutions
Using previous experience gained through working on several high-profile commercial buildings and apartment complexes to achieve similar projects, we were confident A Plus Security would be able to implement a reliable and cost-effective path to a fully functional fire and security system.
After undertaking all works at the Shangri-La Hotel, to avoid the hotel safety systems failing or falling out of repair in the future, we are completing regular maintenance visits to identify any issues that can be fixed quickly and correctly. This will reduce the number of callouts received and costs down to faults. These weekly visits provide the hotel with a well looked after system with minimal issues, that they can trust in an unprecedented event.
