Next-Gen Fire & Security Infrastructure for Leading Telecomms and Mass Media Company
Background
This major company was developing a new group head office in London. As part of the project, A Plus Security was invited to deliver a comprehensive fire and security solution tailored to the client’s high standards and future-ready operational requirements.
Project Goals
The aim was to implement an advanced, scalable, and user-friendly fire and security infrastructure that integrated seamlessly with the client’s brand values and operational workflow. Specific requirements included:
- A cloud-managed CCTV system with remote access and offsite recording, with possible expansion to new sites.
- Access control with easy-to-use mobile fobs incorporating Apple Pay functionality.
- Doors to be unlocked during certain times to prevent staff feeling tracked.
- A PC-based video intercom system for secure entry at main entrance
- A full L1 fire alarm system with remote monitoring
- Intruder alarm and panic functionality for reception staff
- Disabled refuge and accessible toilet alarms throughout
Client Expectations
The client placed significant emphasis on aesthetics, functionality, cyber security compliance, and future expansion—requiring systems that would not only perform reliably but also align with their global branding and IT infrastructure.
Challenges
Evolving Requirements Post-Tender
After the initial tender, the client’s IT strategy changed to mandate offsite recording and tighter cyber security measures. This shift required a re-evaluation of selected vendors and technologies. As a result of advice from A Plus Security, the client chose to change from the original manufacturer to Gallagher Command Centre who also held the required cyber security certification.
System Compatibility and Future-Proofing
The desired Apple Pay integration for access control and a scalable, secure CCTV solution posed compatibility and compliance challenges. The intercom system also needed to be fully IP-based with real-time PC and mobile integration.
Solutions
Tailored Technical Upgrades
A-Plus Security tailored the original specification with the following technical upgrades:
- Partnered with Gallagher Security for the access control system to meet both the Apple Pay functionality and cyber security certifications.
- Installed OpenEye’s cloud-managed CCTV with browser-based remote monitoring and offsite backup.
- Delivered a BPT IP360 video intercom system with PC software, mobile apps, and a reception desk monitor for availability and accessibility.
- Supplied an Advanced Electronics fire alarm with Apollo devices, fully covering the premises to L1 standards with remote monitoring to alert the fire brigade.
- Implemented an Orisec intruder alarm for external doors with a panic button at reception and remote guard service integration.
- Fitted a Baldwin Boxall Omnicare system for disabled refuge and DDA toilet alarms, ensuring full emergency accessibility compliance.
Training
Training and Handover
Full training was provided to multiple building users, ensuring smooth adoption and confident operation of all systems. Ongoing support was ensured through a maintenance contract managed by the client’s facilities management company.
Results
The delivered system is robust, fully IP-based, and designed for seamless scalability across future sites. A Plus Security’s commitment to communication, technical excellence, and client collaboration resulted in a system that not only meets regulatory standards but enhances operational efficiency and safety.
